A Friendship Sparked Outdoors, Rooted in Adventure

Mia Taylor and Kassandra August have always shared a love for adventure, the outdoors, and connecting with the land. Their story began at an outdoor event, where Kassandra first saw Mia fire spinning—an unforgettable moment that sparked a friendship based on curiosity, respect, and shared values. From that day forward, their bond grew stronger, fueled by countless adventures and an ever-deepening appreciation for culture and community.

Over the years, Mia and Kassandra’s journeys led them along different paths, gathering diverse experiences and wisdom. Eventually, their shared vision brought them together again—to create Dreamcatcher Holistic Health Services Inc., an Indigenous-owned organization dedicated to holistic wellness, cultural revitalization, and walking alongside communities with authenticity and hope.

About Mia Taylor

Mia Taylor serves as CEO and Founder of Dreamcatcher Holistic Health Services Inc. (DHHS), an Indigenous-owned organization delivering comprehensive mobile wellness solutions to Indigenous communities and industrial sectors across Canada.

They are a two-spirited Mental Health Specialist, Certified Psychological Health and Safety Advisor, and Master's candidate in Clinical Psychology with Choctaw, Chickasaw and African heritage. Their academic research and professional expertise focus on culturally responsive holistic health interventions within the Industrial Trades sector and Indigenous community settings.

DHHS provides specialized services to address critical industry challenges, including the construction sector's mental health crisis, where 83% of workers experience significant mental health symptoms. Their organization brings together certified professionals, including therapeutic counsellors, athletic therapists, diabetes educators, psychological health and safety advisors, Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Education (CORE) instructors, and mental health responders to deliver comprehensive services.

A cornerstone of Mia's approach is their commitment to community-centered program development. They work alongside local elders, knowledge keepers, hunters, artists, and healers to ensure all services remain culturally grounded. This collaborative methodology honours traditional practices while integrating evidence-based interventions that address the interconnected aspects of mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness.

Through strategic partnerships with the Canadian College of Health Leaders and the BC Wildlife Federation, Mia has developed programs that support professional excellence in healthcare leadership and traditional practices like food sovereignty education. Their Mental Health Responder course provides credits toward certification as a Certified Health Executive, demonstrating their commitment to advancing standards in healthcare delivery.

Mia's vision emphasizes building sustainable community capacity through hiring and training Indigenous Program Facilitators while expanding on opportunities for existing community facilitators that preserve cultural values. Their mobile service delivery model extends to remote industrial sites, construction projects, mining operations, and Indigenous communities, ensuring that comprehensive wellness services reach those who need them most, regardless of location or accessibility challenges.

Through Dreamcatcher, Mia remains dedicated to providing accessible, culturally relevant holistic health solutions supporting workplace and community wellness while honouring Indigenous ways of being, leaving no stone unturned, no person behind, and no community without.
